Dreamwidth, Apparently

LJ seems to be having issues pretty often. How many of you have migrated to Dreamwidth?

I am making the change to DW. Leaving the Poutine regime behind!

Most of my friends list seems to have gone there. I am contemplating following myself, since this final server move to Russia seems to have pushed out most of the remaining facebook holdouts.

How long has Dreamwidth been around? I've never heard of it...

I've only recently heard of it with a few LJ friends having made the move. Evidently, there's also an LJ repost option there so you don't lose contact with any remaining LJ folks.

However, I also saw some mention of somebody not being able to support a company with their lack of ethics but ha want yet researched the matter. That was only yesterday.

I've been using both for some years, and yeah, posting on Dreamwidth and having it crosspost for me to LJ works pretty well. My quibbles are tiny (like, if you use a ' within a Dreamwidth cut-tag it becomes '' on LJ-side). I really like the Dreamwidth dev team... they're sharp and have it together. I haven't heard anything bad about them -- what are they supposed to have done?

I've been cross posting from DW for the past couple years. The DW platform is built on the same platform as LJ, so all your LJ-specific tags will migrate just fine. A lot of people I know who've made the jump are checking the box "cross post to livejournal" so the non-DW cohort doesn't get left in the cold.

But yeah, DW is a thing. It's robust. The user interface is familiar to anyone who's used LJ. It's just a short period of getting things set up, and there are migration assistants within DW to make that as painless as possible. Overall, it's not been any kind of a headache for me.

I recently duplicated my LJ onto DW, and have been mostly commenting over there on crossposts. I'm sauergeek there as well.

You already found me, I've had an account there for years but haven't done much with it yet. I read there to catch the people who don't crosspost or don't have comments enabled on their crossposts.

If the majority of people I interact with end up over there then I'll shift more but it's not like I post much here at the moment anyway. Depends how much FB is annoying me at any given point.
